About Urban Strategies

Urban Strategies is a St. Louis-based not-for-profit corporation that specializes in human capital development, planning, and strategy implementation as a part of comprehensive neighborhood revitalization.  Founded in 1978, Urban Strategies is engaged in large neighborhood redevelopment initiatives in 19 communities in 11 major cities across the country, coordinating collaborative efforts to transform public and private systems and support strong, self-sustaining people, families and communities.   Currently Urban Strategies serves as the lead implementer for people strategies in five cities that are implementing Choice Neighborhood initiatives, overseeing more than $22 million in support services funding for families impacted by community transformation.  Urban Strategies is the coordinating agency for the Choice Neighborhoods Planning initiative for Preservation Square and the Near North Side.

Urban Strategies was awarded a $500,000 Choice Neighborhood Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to develop a Transformation Plan that will address three critical components of St. Louis’ Near North Side - People, Housing, and Neighborhood – in effort to promote high quality, affordable housing, and to plan for projects that increase safety, stabilize anchors, close service gaps, and create connections in the neighborhood. The Transformation Plan will provide for the opportunity to improve educational and health outcomes for children and families, increase opportunities for upward mobility, increase opportunities for disconnected youth, and improve neighborhood safety. The Plan will leverage existing assets and will establish the Near North Side as a thriving entryway to downtown St. Louis.
